The American Psychiatric Association is moving back to Washington, D.C., after having spent more than a dozen years in Virginia.
The association announced Thursday that it will move its offices from 1000 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington, Va., to 800 Maine Ave. in D.C. sometime between Nov. 1, 2017 and Jan. 1, 2018. The new offices will be across the street from Arena Stage.
APA originally was located on K Street. Its new offices will occupy 63,000 square feet in an office complex known as The Wharf. The association has signed a 10-year lease.
"We are delighted to welcome the American Psychiatric Association and their 200 employees back to their home, in D.C.," D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a statement. "The APA's move is another sign that our infrastructure, our economy and our talent are attracting world-class organizations into the District."
APA CEO Saul Levin said the move allows the organization to take a more active part in advocating on Capitol Hill.
"We left the District more than a dozen years ago and we missed being in the city. We are thrilled to be coming back," he said.
APA was represented in lease negotiations by Sherry Cushman of Cushman & Wakefield in conjunction with CBRE. The Wharf was represented by Brian Dawson of Cushman & Wakefield.
